Global Macadamia Production to Surpass 300,000 Tons by 2025, China Leads Consumption, published by China Nuts.
NINGBO – Key insights from the recent China International Nut Conference in Ningbo indicate a significant expansion in the global macadamia market. In-shell production is projected to exceed 300,000 tons by 2025 and is on track to reach 500,000 tons by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.3%.
China has solidified its position as not only a major producer but also the world's largest consumer, leading in both in-shell and kernel consumption. The nation's primary imports are sourced from South Africa and Australia.
International Trade Focuses on Chinese Market
The robust demand from China is reshaping global trade flows. In 2025, Kenya is expected to continue increasing its macadamia exports to China. The arrival of an initial 54-ton batch of African nuts in Hunan this year underscores the stability of China's trade system and its strong market demand.
Concurrently, new export policy reviews affecting some Kenyan products are prompting adjustments in the global nut market landscape.
Southeast Asia Actively Pursues Chinese Cooperation
Reflecting the Chinese market's continued openness and appeal, Myanmar's agricultural department has recently encouraged local operators to register for macadamia exports to China. This initiative requires adherence to the latest bilateral Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) agreements, with applications due by November 30.
Quality and Logistics Emerge as Key Competitive Factors
As global supply volumes rise, the focus of industry competition is shifting. Stable product quality and logistical efficiency have become the new critical factors for success.
This harvest season, China's domestically produced macadamias are positioned with a distinct market advantage, benefiting from proximity to major consumer markets and reduced transportation costs.
